Beadybird is a small homebased jewellery company based by the sea in Portobello, east Edinburgh. Run by designer Avril Scott, Beadybird creates jewellery from beautiful stones such as agate, jasper and onyx, as well as ceramic beads, crystals and freshwater pearls to name but a few.
Beadybird came about two years ago when Avril made a natural progression from jewellery making and teaching, to teaching jewellery making in the school where she works. As well as all this and Avril's job as a classroom assistant in the local secondary school, Avril also finds the time to teach knitting and jewellery classes.
Being self employed can have its joys and pitfalls, and in Avril's case it turns out to be the same thing - being alone with her beads. It can keep you sane or drive you insane.
Avril who admits to having a strange tortoise passion, loves the Portobello area and and enjoys spending a rare day off wandering the beach followed by a superb meal in the Espy.
