The brilliant Perdie & Boo have opened their own shop. Based in Aberfeldy, Perdie & Boo & Friends sells their own colourful range of handmade clothes for tots, as well as products from a range of other designers including Shop Scotland chums Tweedie Beasties and Thistle Fairy Designs. Glasgow based RedApple Handmade have had their honeycomb necklace featured in the UK Handmade Showcase. Alison is also celebrating after RedApple were chosen to showcase work at The International Jewellery Design Newcomers Exhibition in Berlin this Autumn.
A first for Edinburgh artist Hatti Pattison. You can now buy glorious hand finished prints from Hatti. These are limited edition (150 of each) prints which have then been finished by Hatti painting over the top of them. This creates a truly beautiful effect. Prints can be bought direct from Hatti Pattison or via Saatchi. Hatti is also currently in the running to exhibit at the International Contemporary Art Fair for Independent Artists in London early next year. Photographer and designer Lesley Williamson from Glasgow has just gotten hitched. Huge congratulations Lesley, wishing you and your Mr many years of wedded bliss. Lesley is currently changing direction in her business and thanks to her new married name will be focusing more on her new business Neon Gray.
Stirling based Kids Creative have just launched a KickStarter appeal. Owner and designer Kate Caven is aiming to raise enough funds to create and release a brand new range of beautiful, long lasting and durable wooden toys. With pledges starting at £10 there are some wonderful incentives and early bird offers including personalised wooden stars and stunning hand finished toys including tractors, fire engines and helicopters. Kids Creative are hoping to raise £1,700, if you would like to back them you can do here.
Artist Kevin Hunter has recently completed a huge commission to supply 180 framed prints for the newly opened Perle Hotel in Oban. Guests to the hotel can see a selection of Kevin’s Scottish landscapes throughout the building. He has also recently finished his largest painting to date, an 8ft x 5ft commission which is hung in the Merchant Homes office in Glasgow. Kevin’s art can also be found with a number of new stockists including within the stunning Eilean Donan Castle as well as at the new Historic Scotland visitors centre in Maeshowe, Orkney along with Aurora Jewellery. At Industry Insight’s recent Luxury Goods Awards, Irvine based jewellery designer Sheila Kerr was awarded top credit of Independent Jewellery Designer of the Year 2017.
Galloway Chillies had their best Royal Highland Show to date. A very busy 4 days which saw them totally sell out of Chilli Blast, Chilli Original extra-hot, Pure Mustard and Chilli Lime and Ginger extra-hot. The Highland Show was also the first big event to see Galloway Chillies new logo and re-branding, both went down a storm. Galloway Chillies were recent finalists in the Delicious Mag awards and have also now got their produce on the shelves at new stockist All the Goodness at Ardvele in Kyle.
Gorebridge based Supernature Oils have had their Original Oil shortlisted for the Great British Food Awards. Their amazing range of infused oils can also now be bought through Not on the High Street thanks to their new partnership.
Ana of Gatlace Jewellery based in Rathen has had a busy 2017 so far. Firstly she became a mummy for the first time, and on top of that has managed to continue to run and grow her business all with a newborn by her side (and no doubt extreme sleep deprivation). You can now find Gatlace Jewellery in their first stockist, The Art Collective on Princes St, Edinburgh.
Fiona from The Silver Grasshopper on the Isle of Raasay, set herself (and her dog Saba) a 12,000 daily step challenge throughout June in order to raise money for Cancer Research. Fiona and Saba smashed it despite having various weather challenges thrown at them. They also raised well over £250 for charity in the process, fantastic.
Work by jewellery designer Sweet Rosie in Glasgow is regularly spotted in magazines online and in print now. In the current edition of the Scottish Wedding Directory Sweet Rosie’s stacking bracelets, hoop set and star studs are all pictured. And her Rose Gold bar earrings were featured on a New York Fashion Week website about Mothers Day gifts.
Kerry of Paperama has branched out and launched her new business Positive Twists. Positive Twists specialises in coaching, development and marketing support for entrepreneurs and small businesses. Shop Scotland members and contributors are currently being offered an amazing 20% discount on all Kerry’s services. Other small businesses can get a 10% discount by quoting Shop Scotland.
