Sheila Kerr News
June 2021 – Throughout lockdown I moved my studio to my garden summer house. The studios were closed. I set up on an old table with all my tools etc (nothing like my studio in Irvine). I completed existing bespoke commissions and then there was no more income. My studio was closed, my outlets were closed and my suppliers too. So I had to do something! I designed a new collection ‘The Tree of Hope’ using my stock of silver bullion. I started a social media promotion.
I set up a Facebook VIP customer group and created my lockdown pieces. I also had a 21 day offer – one free piece priced at £21 for 21 days. This really took off and I gained new customers, new sales and then new commissions. August to December 2020 was my best year financially in the lead up to Christmas since I set up in 2008. From January 2021 – and including lockdown – my online sales and commissions have continued to grow.
I have made an engagement ring for a couple in Canada, I have another commission from Canada and have an increased number of high value commissions from all over the UK.
It’s been a tough and very challenging time. Family bereavements and illnesses have been magnified by the pandemic. I’ve kept the business going throughout and am so proud of everything I’ve achieved.
